2011 ~ The Goals: To Live Authentically & Intentionally

Yosemite 09′

Wow, I can’t believe that it’s been three weeks since my last post!

Between the decorating, celebrating Christmas, spending time with family ~

my parents visited for four days!, opening gifts, eating way too many goodies,

getting over a sinus infection and then getting a cold,

traveling for a mid-week soccer tournament, celebrating New Year’s with family

and taking down the Christmas decorations…whew!

We’ve been just a little busy :’)

It was time to take a break from the computer and blogland

and spend time with the Fam!

Yosemite 09′ ~ Wow, the kids have changed so much!

While some families are back to their normal school & work routines,

we are still on vacation!

So, in addition to catching up on sleep, it’s a great time for me

to think back on the past year and get organized for the new one.

Besides the usual organizing around the house, getting caught up on laundry

and filling out my new calendars,

I’ve been thinking a lot about who I want to be this year.

Since I was a teenager my motto has always been “To be who God wants me to be”…

not the person I think I am – weak, inconsistent, not great at any-one-thing,

disorganized…the list goes on and on.

I have to constantly remind myself that God didn’t just throw me together

in some haphazard fashion, but that He: “…knit me together in my mother’s womb…

I am fearfully and wonderfully made…Psalm 139:13-14

and that He has a plan for my life: “For I know the plans that I have for you,

declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you,

plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.

Our pastor gave us a great reminder this week:

“God does extraordinary things through ordinary people.”

Thank you Jesus!

His advice to us, as we start a new year, was to stop doing what we know not to do

and start doing what we know to do (2 Corinthians 6:14-7:1).

Sounds pretty simple, but it’s not always that easy to get rid of our bad habits

or to start doing the hard things…

His final words of wisdom were: “Offer your ordinary and discover your Genius!”

So, as I travel through another year of life with my Lord, my family & friends

and those who I will cross paths with,

I feel inspired to live a more authentic and intentional life.

To let go of my preconceived ideas of  how to be the perfect wife, mom, teacher, friend…

to learn to give God my ordinary self each morning so that He has the freedom

to use me as He desires and to mold me into the woman that He created me to be.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
